On Tuesday, the Catamount Concert Series presents "Four Hands on Broadway" featuring faculty pianists Dr. Andrew Adams, (the newly) Dr. Bradley Martin, students from the WCU Musical Theatre program, and percussionists. The program includes Adams and Martin in selections from Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, students vocalist singing familiar selections from Rodgers and Hammerstein, and a fast-paced transcription of Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story with percussionists Dan Gonko (faculty), Byron Hedgepeth, and Jarrett Goodchild. This free concert that takes place Tuesday evening at 8pm in the Recital Hall of the Coulter Building.
The WCU Wind Ensemble presents its final concert of the semester on Thursday evening in the Fine and Performing Arts Center. The program features two well-known masterworks for the wind band: Lincolnshire Posy and Russian Christmas Music. Lincolnshire Posy, by the Australian composer Percy Aldridge Grainger, is a set of movements depicting original folk tunes from the Lincolnshire District of England. American composer Alfred Reed's Russian Christmas Music draws material from the music of the Eastern Orthodox Church and Russian folk music. Dr. John West conducts the WCU Wind Ensemble which is the premiere instrumental ensemble at WCU comprised mainly of music majors. There is no admission charge for the concert. It takes place Thursday at 8pm in the Performance Hall of the Fine and Performing Arts Center.
Join us Sunday afternoon at the Fine and Performing Arts Center to celebrate "The Sounds of the Season." The School of Music presents its annual holiday concert. Several faculty and student ensembles perform celebratory music including the Smoky Mountain Brass Quintet, the Concert Choir, the Wind Ensemble, the University Chorus, the Inspirational Choir, the Jazz Ensemble, the Early Music Ensemble, and ensembles of these instruments: percussion, horns, saxophones, flutes, recorders clarinets, trumpets, trombones, tubas and euphoniums, classical guitars, and jazz guitars!
This concert is Sunday at 3pm in the Performance Hall of the Fine and Performing Arts Center. Purchase tickets from the School of Music (828-227-7242) or get them at the door. Proceeds benefit scholarships for WCU Music Students.
